How InstaWins work
InstaWins are the simplest thing we run — and the most transparent. Here's exactly what they are, and how you can check for yourself that they're fair.
What is an InstaWin?
In a normal competition you buy tickets and wait for a draw to pick a winner. An InstaWin is different: certain ticket numbers are already cash winners before you play. When you buy tickets you're allocated ticket numbers — and if one of your numbers is on the winning list, you win that cash amount instantly. No draw date, no waiting.
Each winning number is worth a fixed, published amount — for example a ticket number might be worth £5, £50, or £500. The full breakdown of prizes is shown on the game page before you play.
Why you don't have to trust us
The obvious worry with InstaWins is: how do you know the big prizes were ever really in there, or that they weren't quietly removed once someone got close? We answer that with cryptography, not a promise.
Before a game opens, we write down the complete list of winning ticket numbers and their values. We run that exact list through a one-way fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) and have an independent verification service sign it with a timestamp. That signed fingerprint is published. Because it's signed and timestamped, the list is frozen — we can't add, remove, or change a single winning number afterwards without the fingerprint no longer matching.
How it works, step by step
- Step 1
We set the winning numbers
Before the game opens, every winning ticket number and its cash value is written down as one fixed list.
- Step 2
The list is locked and signed
The whole list is fingerprinted (SHA-256) and independently signed with a timestamp. From this moment it can't be changed — that's enforced, not just promised.
- Step 3
You play and win instantly
You buy tickets and get ticket numbers. If any of your numbers is on the winning list, you've won that amount instantly.
- Step 4
The proof is published
Once the game is open, the full winning-number list and the signed fingerprint are published on the verification page for anyone to inspect.
How to check the proof yourself
- Open the game's verification page (linked from every InstaWins game as “Verify it yourself”).
- Take the published winning-number list, rebuild the exact text, and run SHA-256 on it. Confirm it matches the published fingerprint.
- Paste the signed object into random.org's own signature checker and confirm the fingerprint is inside what they signed — proving the list existed, unchanged, before the game opened.
